All edges gilt, marbled endpapers with decorative gilt turn-ins. Frontispiece portrait with tissue cover in each volume, some transference to tissue and title page. Multiple illustrated maps and illustrations, complete in both volumes. Large fold-out map of the Battle of Winchester (Nevins II, p. 88) Clean pages, bright illustrations, a near fine copy in the publisher’s scarce full morocco binding.
Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888) served as a Union General during the Civil War and was notable for his close relationship with General-in-Chief Ulysses S. Grant. (Eicher 572)
