Octavo, xvi, [2], 171pp. Original brown cloth, title in gilt on spine. Floral endpapers, internally clean. The edition was apparently limited to 225 copies. Publisher Edwin B. Hill reportedly printed the book by hand.

A collection of ten early essays and reviews relating to Henry David Thoreau, including George Ripley’s and James Russell Lowell’s reviews of A Week on the Concord and Merrimack Rivers, Charles Frederick Briggs’ review of Walden, a piece by Amos Bronson Alcott, and Henry Williams’ recollections of the Harvard Class of 1837, where he was a classmate of Thoreau.
