Signed by Ansel Adams, the first edition of Photographs of the Southwest, with an inscription from contributor Lawrence Clark Powell to Americana historian Wilbur Zink.

Oblong quarto, cxxviii. Publisher’s original burnt orange cloth, title in gilt on spine. Stated “First printing” on copyright page. Solid text block, touch of rubbing to cloth at corners. Contains 109 black and white photographs, nearly all spanning the full page. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $32.50 retail price on front flap, light shelf wear, a near fine example.

Signed by photographer Ansel Adams and essayist Lawrence Clark Powell on the dedication page. Inscription in Powell’s hand reads: “For Wilbur Zink, with cordial regards / Feb. 6, 1993.”

Ansel Adams (1902-1984), lifelong photographer and conservationist, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Jimmy Carter in 1980.
