Octavo, [8], 294pp. Green cloth, title stamped in gilt on spine. Bookplate of Denise Cowles on front pastedown. Light sunning to the spine, internally clean. Housed in a custom green leather slipcase. The first issue of the first edition, with continuous pagination, errors in the cast of “Strife,” and the publisher’s device centered on the rear cloth cover.
Dedicated to H. Granville Barker, the volume gathers three of Galsworthy’s early social dramas: The Silver Box, first performed at the Royal Court Theatre in 1906; Joy, a domestic drama; and Strife, his industrial conflict play.
Galsworthy was later awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1932.
