Description

First edition of Prelude to Invasion by Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson, inscribed to his former law partner, Allison Choate.

Octavo, iii, 332pp. Burgundy cloth, title in gilt on spine and front cover. Light rubbing to boards, faint residual dust along top edge, a near fine example with solid text block. Stimson.” The recipient of this book was Stimson’s former law partner at Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam and Roberts. A scarce signed book.

Prelude to Invasion is Secretary of War Stimson’s report to the nation, for the period from the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor to the invasion of Normandy. A thorough topdown look at the war effort, the buildup of war materials, advances in the Pacific theater and the successful landings on the beaches of Normandy. Henry Stimson served as Secretary of War (1911-1913), Secretary of State (1929-1933), and Secretary of War (1940-1945).
