Inscribed photograph of the North American T-39A Sabreliner, assigned to support Lyndon B. Johnson’s travel to the LBJ Ranch. Inscribed by Johnson to the Air Force personnel responsible for painting the aircraft.
The aircraft is now held by the National Museum of the United States Air Force, in Dayton, Ohio.
Photograph measures: 8″ x 10″. Notable wear along margins. This photograph was previously framed, with mounting glue remaining on the verso.
Inscribed along the bottom margin: “To the paint shop folks – Very well done / Warm best wishes / Lyndon B. Johnson.”
The Air Force assigned this North American T-39A Sabreliner to Bergstrom Air Force Base in August 1968 for Lyndon Johnson’s travel between Washington and his ranch near Stonewall, Texas. It was fitted with a VIP interior for six passengers and three crew members.
This aircraft is the Air Force serial 62-4478, with the shortened tail marking 24478. After Johnson’s death in January 1973, it became an avionics test aircraft known as the “Speckled Minnow.” It is now displayed in the Presidential Gallery at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
