First edition, second impression of Thomson’s “Peacock Edition” of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
Octavo, xxvii, [1], 476pp, [4]. Full green cloth, title in gilt on front cover and spine. Vibrantly decorated with a gilt illustration of a peacock on front panel. Stated: “First edition in this form was printed in October, 1894. Reprinted March, 1895” on copyright page. Slight lean to text block, rubbing to cloth corners, faint sunning to spine. Both hinges starting, toning to endpapers, light foxing throughout. Thin dampstain along top edge, no impact to text. A very good example. Previous ownership bookplate affixed to front endpaper, previous ownership inscription opposite half-title.
This edition is known as the “Thomson peacock illustrated edition,” complete with all listed illustrations, including a frontispiece and engraved title page.
Housed in a custom black cloth clamshell, title in gilt on morocco spine.
