Description

Three-page questionnaire for former President Jimmy Carter regarding his childhood experiences, from the Macmillan Publishing Company. President Carter answers only one of the questions about how kids should look to change the world.

Typewritten questionnaire, previously stapled at upper left corner. Full text of Carter’s handwritten answer reads: “There is always a need to break down barriers between people and to make new friends, even with those who are quite different from us. Sometimes they live nearby & sometimes in foreign countries. This will help to insure world peace and encourage us to share our wealth and freedom with others. In doing so, our own lives will be more exciting, adventurous, and happier.” Includes a copy of the publication rights. The questionnaire is signed on the third page “J. Carter” and dated “2/3/87.” Provenance from RR Auction.

The working title for this book by Carol Orsag Madigan was Kids World, but the final publication was titled When They Were Kids: Over 400 Sketches of Famous Childhoods by Carol Orsag Madigan and Ann Elwood.
