Signed by Martin Van Buren, the first edition of the Republican Nomination for Governor and Lt. Governor, with an Address to the Electors of the State of New-York. A scarce New York political pamphlet, signed by Van Buren, who was serving in the New York legislature.
Octavo, 15pp, [1]. Original stitched self-wrappers. Pamphlet is complete, with toning and light foxing throughout. Wear along the margins, previously folded. Housed in a custom blue cloth folder, title stamped in gilt over a red morocco label.
Inscribed and signed by Martin Van Buren at the head of the upper wrapper, “From your friend / Martin Van Buren.”
A scarce signed pamphlet from early in the career of the future President of the United States.

Issued following the Republican legislative caucus held on February 22, 1820, the pamphlet records the nomination of Daniel D. Tompkins for Governor and Benjamin Moers for Lieutenant Governor of New York. At the time of publication, Van Buren was serving in the New York State Senate and chaired the caucus. Within two decades, he would become Governor of New York, Secretary of State, Vice President under Andrew Jackson, and President of the United States (1837-1841).
