Comments: Howard Gilman was the Chairman of the Gilman Paper Company and the benefactor of the Howard Gilman Foundation. The charitable foundation was formed to support performing arts organizations in New York City. They gave an endowment to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to create the first permanent collection dedicated to photography. They are a major sponsor of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and Lincoln Center.
