Octavo, xii, [3]-410pp. White boards, title stamped in blue on the spine. The book club edition, which lacks the “First Edition” statement on the copyright page. Light wear to lower edge of boards, wear at the heel of the spine. Includes the bookplate of Dr. John F. McHugh and his “Rooseveltiana” collection bookplate. In the publisher’s dust jacket, lacking a retail price, bright illustrations, a near fine example.
Signed on the front free endpaper: “To Jack McHugh / Harry S. Truman.”
Signed by former President Harry S. Truman outside the Ambassador Hotel on July 4th, 1953, before leaving for a matinee. The meeting between Truman and McHugh was featured in the New York Times on July 5th, noting that this book was signed at the meeting. Truman said the book was “…good reading, young man.”
