Sandkings by George R. R. Martin was first published in Omni magazine in August 1979. It won both the Hugo Award and the Nebula Award for Best Novella that year, establishing it as one of Martin’s most celebrated science-fiction works. The novella was later reprinted as the title story of his 1981 short-story collection Sandkings and has since been widely anthologized and adapted for television.
