The first edition of Shores and Alps Of Alaska by Heywood Walter Seton-Karr, published in 1887. This copy is from the library of philosopher and scientist, Joseph A. Sadony.
Octavo, xiv, [4], 248pp, [map], 32pp catalogue. Blue-gray cloth, title stamped in gilt. Brown endpapers, solid text block. Light soiling to cloth binding, sunning to spine, closed tear through leaf 195/196, a few thumb marks throughout text block. Embossed ownership stamp on the title page, noting “Joseph A. Sadony / Private Library.” This work is complete with a frontispiece portrait, 57 illustrations (in-text and lithographic plates) and two maps. Also includes a fold-out map of “Alaska / Southern Part,” with a few short closed tears at the hinges, a near fine example of the map. (Arctic Bibliography, 15786)
This work is an account of a visit to the Yakutat Bay, Copper River and Prince William Sound region of Alaska in 1886. It also documents an attempt to ascend Mount St. Elias.
