Measures 6.5″ x 9″. Previously held in a matte, since removed. Photographer’s name lightly written on bottom right corner and stamped on verso. Thin, faint creases to picture, near fine condition.
Inscribed by Albert Schweitzer in the bottom left corner: “To Lee, thanks for the “H,” Albert ’65.”
This picture is one of many taken by George Silk for the Life Magazine commemoration of Albert Schweitzer’s 90th birthday on January 14, 1965. The article, titled “The White Wizard’s 90th: An Inquiring Visit to Dr. Schweitzer” by Hugh Moffet, was published in the February 19th, 1965 issue. The author visited Schweitzer at his medical campus along the Ogowe River just north of the village of Lambarene, Gabon.
