Octavo, [three volumes]. Illustrated hardcover, brown cloth spine, illustrated in gilt. Top edge dyed brown. Internally clean, solid text block. Previous owner’s bookplate on the front free endpaper of each volume. Includes the publisher’s “Sandglass” advertisement for subscribers, issue 9JR-10JR-11JR. Printed by the Quinn & Boden Company. Housed in the publisher’s matching slipcases, light wear along margins, all near fine examples.

From The Heritage Club: “The production of our edition of The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, illustrated from the engravings by Gian Battista Piranesi, represented the completion of the most herculean labor of our career. This reissue has been completed just in time for us to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the birth of Edward Gibbon. Although this edition comes to you in three separate volumes (of which the third contains a valuable and comprehensive index), this Sandglass is the only Sandglass for the set, so do not look for any others.”
