Quarto, [10], 81pp, [7]. Original yellow cloth, title stamped in red on front cover and spine. Illustrated with aquatints by Alexandre Alexeieff, including frontispiece, plates, and in-text illustrations. Light dampstain to top corner of front cover, internally clean. Toning to individual tissue covers. Printed by the Curwen Press.
One of 250 copies printed on mould-made paper, from a total edition of 280 copies, this being number 35.

Gogol’s short story was first published in 1835 and remains one of his best-known works, following the mental decline of the civil servant Poprishchin through a series of dated diary entries.
