Octavo, [10], 334pp, [2], [8pp ads]. Publisher’s red cloth, title stamped in gilt. All edges uncut. This work is complete with 24 illustrated plates by W.B. Wollen, including the frontispiece portrait. Publisher’s catalogue at rear, dated “10.2.96.” Faint dampstain to rear endpapers. Both hinges showing wear, but stable. Housed in a custom red chemise, title in gilt, raised bands on spine. (Green, A19a)
This copy is signed on the title page by the author: “Yours Sincerely / A. Conan Doyle.”
The first impression of Exploits of Brigadier Gerard was published on 15 February 1896, with a production run of 7,000 copies. The first American edition followed on 8 March 1896, with a larger run of 9,000 copies.
