Octavo, xvi, [2], 327pp, [8]. Bound in black cloth, with gilt titles on the spine and a blind-stamped design on the front board. Stated “first printing” on the copyright page. Red topstain. Previous owner’s name in pencil on the front free endpaper. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $3.95 on the front flap, faint sunning to the spine, spotting on verso, a very good example. Dust jacket design by Alfred Manso. The copyright page states “Revised Edition,” as this American edition was altered from the original text because of obscenity concerns.
The Ginger Man by J.P. Donleavy was first published in Paris in 1955 by Olympia Press. The Modern Library declared it one of the best 100 novels of the 20th century.
