Octavo, xii, [4], 511pp. Black cloth, title in silver on spine and front panel. Stated “First Printing” on copyright page. Illustrated endpapers. Internally clean, solid text block. Gift inscription on half title, dated “February 26, 1962.” In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $6.95 on front flap, short closed tear along lower edge of rear panel, light sunning to the spine, light soiling along margins from an old dust jacket protector, a very good example. A scarce first printing of this Pulitzer Prize recipient.
The Guns of August, written by Barbara Tuchman, won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1963, establishing Tuchman’s reputation as a skilled historian and narrative writer.
