Octavo, 249pp. Blue cloth, title stamped in silver on spine. Stated “first edition” on copyright page. Color frontispiece and numerous full-page black and white photographs. This copy appears unread, a fine example. In the publisher’s near fine dust jacket, $4.95 on front flap, light rubbing to top edge of spine, otherwise fine. A scarce example in this condition.

Colonel Joseph W. Kittinger II (b. 1928) is a retired United States Air Force pilot and high-altitude balloonist. He set a world record for the highest skydive at 102,800 feet above the Earth in 1960, a record which stood for 50 years. During his high altitude balloon experiments, he became the first person to witness the curvature of the Earth.
