    Description

First edition of The Long, Lonely Leap by Captain Joseph W. Kittinger, Jr., USAF.

Octavo, 249pp. Blue cloth, title stamped in silver on spine. Stated “first edition” on copyright page. Color frontispiece and numerous full-page black and white photographs. This copy appears unread, a fine example. In the publisher’s near fine dust jacket, $4.95 on front flap, light rubbing to top edge of spine, otherwise fine. A scarce example in this condition.

Colonel Joseph W. Kittinger II (b. 1928) is a retired United States Air Force pilot and high-altitude balloonist. He set a world record for the highest skydive at 102,800 feet above the Earth in 1960, a record which stood for 50 years. During his high altitude balloon experiments, he became the first person to witness the curvature of the Earth.
