William Safire (1929-2009) was a Pulitzer Prize-winning conservative columnist for The New York Times. He was a frequent guest on Meet The Press, describing himself as the voice of “libertarian conservatives.” Before joining The New York Times, Safire served as a presidential speechwriter for President Richard Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew. Theodore H. White (1915-1986) won the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction for The Making of the President 1960. He continued on the series until his death in 1986.
