Description

Octavo, xi, 1120pp, gilt lettering on spine. All edges gilt. Silk endpapers. Sewn-in silk bookmark. This book is a limited edition copy of 2500 signed by President Nixon on the limitation page, this being number 38 of 2500. Includes additional gift inscription from President Richard Nixon to “Carol, Ruth + Shep, With best wishes from Richard Nixon. 12-20-78.” This book was gifted to Robert Abplanalp, the engineer who invented the aerosol spray valve, founder of Precision Valve Corporation and a member of Nixon’s small group of personal friends. Includes laid-in document noting provenance.

Comments: Along with Charles G. “Bebe” Rebozo, Robert Abplanalp provided President Nixon with his Key Biscane hideaway, allowing the President to escape the pressures of Washington. Mr. Abplanalp described his contribution to the Nixon presidency as “My Job was to tell a couple of small jokes.” He continued to be a valued advisor after the resignation of President Nixon, accompanying him on Air Force One back to California in 1974.
