First edition, first printing of The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

Octavo, 140pp. Light blue cloth binding with title in silver on spine. First edition with Scribner’s “A” on copyright page. Light soiling to cloth, some foxing to endpapers, residual dust along top edge of text block. In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $3.00 on front flap, light sunning to top quarter edge, light foxing to flaps, closed tear to center of spine, no mention of Nobel Prize on rear panel, a very good example. (Hanneman 24a) Housed in a custom clamshell case, blue cloth, title in gilt on spine label.

This book was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and is considered one of the most important novels of the 20th century.
