One of two known copies of this presentation edition, the other being Reagan’s personal copy donated to Eureka College in 1988.
The recipient of this book, Donald T. Regan (1918-2003), served as Ronald Reagan’s Secretary of the Treasury from 1981 to 1985 before becoming White House Chief of Staff. Regan was the spokesman for “Reaganomics,” the central figure in the administration’s drive for tax reform. He advocated for “The President’s Tax Proposals to the Congress for Fairness, Growth, and Simplicity” in May 1985, a blueprint for tax reform, lower marginal tax rates, and a broader tax base. Although the plan was not enacted exactly as proposed, it laid the groundwork for the Tax Reform Act of 1986 and stands as one of the signature policy efforts associated with Regan’s time at Treasury.
