Description

Signed first edition of The Rise Of Theodore Roosevelt, by Edmund Morris.

Octavo, 886pp. Black cloth, title in gilt on spine. Intermittent foxing to top edge. In publishers first printing dust jacket, near fine, with small closed tear along top edge, $15.95 on front flap, with “7903” and SBN at bottom of front flap. This dust jacket makes reference to being “A Main Selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club,” which can be confusing when differentiating between the first edition and a book club edition. The book club dust jacket has no price and none of the markers of the first state dust jacket. There is also a significant difference in the paper quality between both editions, evident when compared side by side. This copy is signed by the author on the title page, dated “2011” in “Atlanta, Georgia.” An excellent copy.

Comments: Following the Pulitzer Prize winning The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, author and historian Edmund Morris wrote Theodore Rex, which follows the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt from 1901-1909. This work was followed by “Colonel Roosevelt,” which details the final years of Roosevelt’s life and completes his trilogy.
