Description

Signed first edition of The Winds of Freedom by Secretary of State Dean Rusk, inscribed to his assistant Robert McClintock.

Octavo, xii, [2], 363pp. Blue hardcover, spine in blue cloth, title stamped in silver on spine, embossed illustration on front cover. Stated “first published in 1963” on copyright page. Light toning to edges, a touch of foxing to endpapers, a near fine example. In the publisher’s dust jacket, $4.95 retail price on front flap, some light wear to top edge of spine, bright illustrations, a very good example. Inscribed by Secretary of State Dean Rusk: “With warm regards and admiration for Robert McClintock. Dean Rusk.”

Dean Rusk (1909-1994) held the position of Secretary of State from 1961-1969, serving in both the John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson administrations. Rusk is the second longest serving Secretary of State after Cordell Hull. Robert McClintock (1909-1976) was Special Assistant to Dean Rusk when Rusk worked as the Director of the Offices of Special Political Affairs and United Nations Affairs.
