Some wear at edges, reinforced spine of Volume I, light toning to spines. Chip to title page of Volume I with no loss of text. Includes four maps, affixed to rear panel of each volume. Small ownership inscription on the front endpaper of reach volume. This is the complete first edition of The Winning of the West, published from 1889 – 1896 by G.P. Putnam’s Sons. A similar looking edition printed in 1900, known as the “Allegheny Edition,” includes 5 Maps. (Howes R433) (Wheelock, 13)

Comments: Includes four volumes: From the Alleghenies to the Mississippi, 1769-1776; From the Alleghenies to the Mississippi, 1777-1783; Founding of the Trans-Alleghany Commonwealths, 1784-1790 and Louisiana and the Northwest, 1791-1807. Theodore Roosevelt served as the 26th President of the United States. He was a prolific author, writing more than 18 books during his lifetime, beginning with “The Naval War of 1812” in 1882. His other notable works include The Winning of the West, African Game Trails, and The Rough Riders.
