Soiled endpapers, intermittent toning to pages, occasional finger marks, Volume 5 has a small closed tear along fore edge of pages 167/168. Offsetting to a few pages due to illustrative plates (5 total) and silk bookmarks. Bookplate of Chicago attorney Charles S. Thornton (1851-1932) on front pastedown endpaper of each volume. Gift inscription to Thornton’s father, Solon Thornton (1821-1902), on front free endpaper of Volume I, with his name written on title page. Daniel Webster’s signature on subscriber’s page in Volume I. A nice set of the works of this noted orator and statesman.
