Octavo, 448pp, [2]. Full calf, title stamped in gilt over red morocco label on the spine. Stated “Third Edition” on the copyright page. Notable wear to the spine, cracked along the hinge. Text block stable. Toning and scattered foxing throughout. This work was first published by Joseph Crukshank in Philadelphia in 1774.

Woolman’s influential Quaker antislavery essay, “Some Considerations on the Keeping of Negroes,” was first published in Philadelphia in 1754. He argued that slave holding violated Christian conscience, natural justice, and the Golden Rule. It helped shape the Society of Friends’ growing opposition to slavery and remains one of the important early American abolitionist writings. (Blockson, 17)
