Octavo, x, [2], 387pp, [1]. Green cloth, title stamped in gilt on the spine. The book club edition, with the dot on the rear panel. Solid text block, internally clean. Label removed from both pastedowns.
Includes the bookplate of Dr. John F. McHugh and his “Rooseveltiana” collection bookplate. In the publisher’s “Book Club Edition” dust jacket, light sunning the spine, a near fine example.
Signed on front free endpaper: “Best Wishes / Harry S. Truman.”
Provenance: From the private collection of Dr. John F. McHugh of Allentown, lifelong collector of Rooseveltiana.
Signed by former President Harry S. Truman outside the Ambassador Hotel on July 4th, 1953, before leaving for a matinee. The meeting between Truman and McHugh was featured in the New York Times on July 5th, noting that this book was signed at the meeting. Truman said the book was “…good reading, young man.”
