Octavo, [two volumes], xiv, [10pp maps], 522pp, [4]; ix, [2], 566pp, [2pp ads], [2]. Publisher’s decorative green cloth, title in gilt, embossed in red and black. Slight bow to covers of both volumes. Hinges of Volume I starting, dampstain through rear endpapers of Volume I.
Both volumes are complete with frontispiece portraits, 34 engraved plates, 10 color maps (two large fold-out) and hundreds of in-text woodcut engravings. Light foxing to plates in Volume I, both large foldout maps with splits to the hinges, some foxing to verso, housed in rear compartment of both volumes.
