Octavo, 368pp. Red cloth, title printed on spine and front cover in black, edges worn, light toning to spine. Clean pages. Illustrated endpapers with maps of Eastern Europe. This book was a gift from a member of the CIA to the United States Ambassador to Turkey during the Cold War, with letter of provenance dated 1952.
Comments: This book was a gift to George Wadsworth, who was serving as United States Ambassador to Turkey in 1952. His diplomatic career would take him to Saudi Arabia and then Yemen, before retiring in 1958. It was gifted by Franklin A. Lindsay, who was a member of the CIA and a business executive in later life. Mr. Lindsay served as the head of a military mission to bring supplies to Tito, the Yugoslav Communist Leader during WWII. After WWII, he served on the US Atomic Energy Commission and helped to establish the Marshall Plan in Europe.
