Herbert J. Stern is an American trial lawyer, former federal prosecutor, and former United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey. Appointed to the federal bench in 1973, Stern later presided over United States v. Tiede, the only case tried in the United States Court for Berlin, an experience he recounted in Judgment in Berlin. After leaving the bench, he returned to private practice as a founding partner of Stern Kilcullen & Rufolo.
