Comments: King Hussein I (1935-1999) reigned as the King of Jordan from 1952 until his death. He was credited with successfully balancing the pressures from Arab Nationalists, the Soviet Union, Israel, the United States and other western interests, and creating a stable nation in the Middle East. He died at the age of 63, with his son Abdullah II taking over. His funeral was the largest collection of world leaders since the funeral of Yitzhak Rabin in 1995.
