First edition of View From The Ninth Decade, signed by J.C. Penney. Octavo, 222pp. Black cloth, orange cloth spine, title in gilt on spine. Publishers dust jacket, $2.50 on front flap, wear at edges, some loss at top edge of spine. Inscribed by J.C. Penney on front end paper with a warm inscription to a “good friend.”

Comments: James Cash Penney was the founder of J.C. Penney stores in 1902. He remained active with the company, even after relinquishing daily control in 1940. While visiting a store in Des Moines Iowa, he helped to train a young Sam Walton on how to wrap packages. He passed away in 1971.
