Description

The first edition of Wall Street Stories by Edwin Lefèvre, published in 1901, a fine example.

Octavo, [8], 224pp, [6pp ads]. Publisher’s ribbed green cloth, title stamped in gilt. Front board ruled in blind. No additional printings noted. Faint dust remnant along top edge of text block. Internally clean. The true first printing, as the second and third printings, were issued in red cloth in 1901.

An exceptional copy.

Eight tales of the habits and customs of Wall Street. Some are thinly-veiled portraits of well-known Wall Street characters such as James R. Keene and Daniel Drew. (Hess Collection) First published in McClure’s Magazine in 1900, “Wall Street Stories” was Lefèvre’s first published work and helped establish Lefèvre’s reputation as one of the most perceptive literary interpreters of American finance, anticipating the subject matter that would later make Reminiscences of a Stock Operator his best-known work.
