Oblong quarto, [38pp]. Illustrated boards, olive green cloth spine. Light shelf wear to edges of boards, faint foxing to white boards. The first printing, with the Library of Congress number 63-21253 on the title page. Pictorial endpapers, bright boards and clean illustrated text. In the publisher’s second state dust jacket, $3.50 retail price on front flap, code “40-80 / 1163” on bottom of front flap, Caldecott Award medal on front cover and the “Winner of the 1964 Caldecott Award” on the rear flap. Faint wear to white matte along rear panel, vibrant illustrations, a bright, near fine example. (Hanrahan A58)

Signed by author and illustrator Maurice Sendak on half title, with an illustration of a “Wild Thing” drawn in his hand, and saying “Early Printing! Maurice Sendak.”
