Signed by former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger on the half-title page: “To Ed Hookstratten / Who scared me to death / Every good wish / Henry A. Kissinger.”
Edward Hookstratten (1930-2014), known as “The Hook,” was a Beverly Hills attorney and agent whose clients included Elvis Presley, Johnny Carson, and Tom Brokaw. Hookstratten was known for an aggressive, hands-on negotiating style. Former NBC president Fred Silverman called him a “formidable adversary,” and one NBC executive reportedly reacted with alarm when Brokaw hired him to negotiate his nightly news contract.
