Description

The first edition, first state of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling, published in 1999.

Octavo, 317pp, [3]. Illustrated boards. Internally fine, likely unread. One black ink point along top edge of text block, no impact beyond the edge. Includes the publisher’s first state dust jacket, £10.99 retail price on front flap, a fine example. This work is the first state of the first issue, with “Copyright @ Joanne Rowling 1999” on the copyright page and the text block on [7] misaligned. (Errington A7(a))

A beautiful example, scarce in this condition.

The second and third states of the first printing corrected the copyright imprint to “Copyright @ J.K. Rowling 1999,” and corrects the text block misalignment. (Errington A7(aa)(aaa)) Publication records indicated that 2500 copies of the first state were released in May of 1999, with a total first issue of 5,150 copies. Following in June 1999 with a reprint of 101,800 copies.
