William Howard Taft

Collection of signed books and first editions from President William Howard Taft and his family. Includes books, documents and ephemera from his time as President of the United States and his post-presidential career on the Supreme Court.

William Howard Taft was a prolific author during his long career in government. During his campaign for president in 1908 he wrote Present Day Problems, which was a collection of addresses about contemporary political issues. After losing the presidency to Woodrow Wilson in 1912, he authored Popular Government (1913), The Anti-Trust Act and the Supreme Court (1914), Our Chief Magistrate and his Powers (1916) and a memoir with his wife Nellie Taft called Recollections of Full Years (1914).

Scarce first editions and signed books by President Taft continue to be valuable collector’s items and at times are difficult to find.
