Octavo, 231pp, [2pp ads]. Publisher’s decorative green cloth, title in gilt with color illustrations on spine and front cover. Top edge gilt, illustrated endpapers. The first printing with “Set up, electrotyped, and published July, 1903” on copyright page and one leaf of ads at rear. Solid text block, bumped corners, notable wear to covers, points of soiling to all cloth surfaces, sunning to spine and some loss of cloth along the crown. Lacking the scarce dust jacket. Complete with ten full-page colored plates, including a frontispiece. Notable foxing and wear to Plate 8, titled “It was to the death,” likely tipped-in at a later date. (BAL 11876) (Sisson 14)
