John Berendt (b. 1939) is a journalist turned author. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil was his first book, spending a record-setting 216 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, a finalist for the 1995 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction, tells the true story of the murder trial of Jim Williams in Georgia. The book was released on January 10, 1994. This book was adapted into a movie of the same name in 1997, directed by Clint Eastwood and starring John Cusack.
