Gerald R. Ford.” Includes an additional letter on White House stationary, dated December 9, 1976, thanking Mr. Byers for his service, also signed by President Ford.
Comments: Wheaton Byers (1925-2017) served in both the State Department and the CIA. During the Nixon administration he was asked to serve as the president’s Executive Secretary for the Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board. After leaving government, Mr. Byers was hesitant to speak about his service for the CIA and his time in The Hague.
