Comments: J. Robert Oppenheimer is commonly known as “The Father of the Atomic Bomb.” He was the head of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project, which was tasked with developing the first atomic bomb during World War II. After its successful deployment, he became the first head of the Atomic Energy Commission. In later life, he was an outspoken advocate for international nuclear controls, which was an unpopular political position during the 1950s.
