Description
First American edition of And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, in the publisher’s first state dust jacket.
Octavo, [6], 264pp., [2]. Tan cloth, title printed in orange on front cover and spine. Top edge dyed orange, lightly foxed. No additional printings listed. Solid text block, light marks to rear cover, a near fine example. Previous ownership bookplate affixed to front free endpaper.
In the publisher’s first state dust jacket, $2.00 retail price on front flap, archival tissue repairs to reinforce joints, loss to top edge of spine, wear to both panels. Housed in a custom red cloth clamshell, with title in gilt on black label affixed to spine, marbled paper interior.
A nice example in a scarce dust jacket.
“This ingenious and harrowing suspense novel is usually cited as one of Agatha Christie’s greatest works.” (Steinbrunner & Penzler 87)
Originally published in Great Britain in 1939 under the title Ten Little Niggers, it was changed for the United States audience to And Then There Were None. An alternative title, Ten Little Indians, was used by Pocket Books Publishing from 1946-1986.Â
