The Documentary Edition of A History of the American People, signed by President Woodrow Wilson.

Octavo, in ten volumes. Bound in the publisher’s three quarter brown levant, marbled boards, title in gilt with raised bands. Top edge gilt, uncut edges. Frontispiece portrait in each volume and over 1300 illustrations throughout. All ten volumes with previous ownership signature on second free endpaper. All volumes are largely unread. Expert restoration to Volume I and 10, hinges repaired, head and tail of spine rebuilt, dye and leather oil applied. Conservative restoration to the spines of Volume 2-9. (Johnson, 385)

From a limited edition of 400 copies, this being number 354, signed on the colophon by President Woodrow Wilson during his second term as president.

This Documentary Edition was released by Harper & Brothers in 1918, with 400 copies signed by President Woodrow Wilson. Of those 400 copies, 25 were bound in full levant, 75 in three quarter levant and 300 in buckram cloth. (Publisher’s Weekly, p. 857, 1919) A History of the American People was first published in 1902 when Woodrow Wilson was President of Princeton University. It was released in a trade edition, a subscription Library Edition and the signed Alumni Edition (limited to 350 signed copies).
