Octavo, ix, 467pp. Tan cloth, title printed in brown on front cover and spine. Green topstain. Later date printed on title page, copyright 1901. Solid text block, worn cloth, small frays to corners. Faint splitting to front and rear hinges. Previous ownership inscription to front free endpaper. Complete with 14 full-page illustrations, including frontispiece.

Includes the bookplate of the author, Robley D. Evans, affixed to the front endpaper.

Robley “Fighting Bob” Evans (1846-1912) was a rear admiral in the U.S. Navy, serving during the Civil War and the Spanish-American War. From 1907 to 1908, Evans commanded the Great White Fleet, which circumnavigated the globe and visited multiple countries to improve foreign relations and showcase U.S. naval strength.
