A bright, near fine example, in an attractive presentation case.

In 1856, British explorer William Chandless (1829-1896) journeyed to Salt Lake City, traveling overland from the Missouri River along the emigrant trails used by Mormon pioneers. His route followed portions of the Platte, Sweetwater, and Green Rivers before crossing the Wasatch Range into the Salt Lake Valley. Chandless spent several months in Salt Lake City, observing Mormon society and leadership, recording his impressions of its social structure, religious practices, and economic organization. His observations provide one of the earliest detailed accounts of the Utah Territory and the Latter-day Saints during Brigham Young’s leadership.
