Stated “Ninth Edition” on title page. Small tears, chips, and bumps to binding, light rubbing to gilt. Light foxing throughout, toning to title page and frontispiece, some wear to gutters, a very good example. Previous ownership inscription on the front flyleaf. Features a frontispiece at the front of each volume, plus one hand-colored plate of “The Present Emperor Of China.”
Senior Chaplain of the U.S. Navy, Fitch W. Taylor (1803-1865) was first a minister for the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Maryland. During his twenty-four years of service in the U.S. Navy, Taylor circumnavigated the globe aboard the USS Columbia, one of the first U.S. naval ships to make such a voyage.
