E. Annie Proulx (born August 22, 1935) is an American writer known for her novels and short stories set in rural North America. Her novel The Shipping News (1993) won both the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award. Proulx also received an O. Henry Award for her short fiction, including “Brokeback Mountain,” later adapted into a 2005 film. Her other works include Postcards, Accordion Crimes, That Old Ace in the Hole, Barkskins, and the Wyoming Stories collections.
